The FDA is asking pet owners not to handle or give their pets Merrick Beef Filet Squares for dogs because it MAY possibly have salmonella contamination. This dog treat is distributed by Merrick Pet Care and has a package date of “Best By 111911″.

If you happen across one of these packages please do not open it, dispose off the product in a trash can with a lid. Also when taking your trash to the curb make sure the bag is secure in your trash can so a stray dog cannot get to the treats.

Well for those of you who don’t know it is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. The good news is you don’t have to wear your Halloween costume so get creative!

Some folks thinks this is a great idea (probably the ones dressing up their pet) and other folks think it’s humiliating to us animals. I have to say today’s news is on a much happier note then my last two posts.

Now I’m not sure how I would feel about dressing up, I haven’t tried it. Though I declare I’d make a fine Scarlett O’Hara if I say so myself. I look at it this way some of us are so fortunate that we have humans that love us so much and lavish items on us. It might look silly on the outside but I think their heart is in the right place. Then sadly some pets are just fashion accessories.

It just breaks your heart to hear of such things but out in California a couple weeks ago two people that ran a pet store were charged with animal cruelty involving 100 little toy puppies. Some people ask what constitutes animal abuse? It means more to some then others.

In the most simplest sense a lack of food, water, shelter and a safe home. Now I can’t speak for the conditions at the pet store, I know many people would consider over-breeding for a profit animal abuse. Or keeping too many animals in a small area where they can’t move around.

And the list can go on, I think we will bring this issue up again, but this is about the puppies…

The Solono animal shelter is keeping the puppies safe and sound and could use some help, they have a website which gives an update on the puppies.
