Could you imagine losing a pet? It may have happened to you already, it did me. It’s quite heartbreaking but today’s story gives me hope and I hope it does the same for you.
Two years ago a sad thing happened someone left a communal gate open and a 8 month old bit pull terrier puppy got loose. Believe or not he was returned 2 years later, yup you read that right 2 years later. The owner who wants to remain nameless (so it doesn’t happen again) was flabbergasted. I think I would be too.
The dog wandered off again and the animal control people picked it up and found two micro chips planted inside, one for the original owner and the second not original owners.

I just read a wonderful story in the Bristol Press about an accounting clerk that opened her own pet grooming store after waiting patiently for years to find the right spot.
Debbie Zakrzewski owns Arf Arf Grooming in Bristol CT and she loves what she does, it makes me happy when someone gets to do what they enjoy in life and can make a living at it too.
The story says when she was a teenager she bathed cats, (me thinks you need to be part octopus for that), and her life long passion grew. Encouraged by her son to attend grooming school when she lost year job, she did just that and has been successfully grooming pets for many years.

Congratulations Debbie you deserve a big Paws Up for your tenacity, may you have many profitable years ahead.

With the horrible events that took place in Haiti on January 12th this short video shows how dogs are trained to find live victims in tragedies like earthquakes. Many of these dogs are rescued from animal shelters and saved from death themselves.
Here’s a link to the video Specially Trained Dogs Prepare from CNN
Our hearts go out to the peoples of Haiti here’s the link to World Vision if you would like to donate some monies to help the victims. I’m sure there are many more agencies you can give of your time and money to help Haiti, I’m not associated with World Vision it’s just a link.
Disclaimer: before you give your money be sure you are giving on a secure and legitimate website.
The FDA is asking pet owners not to handle or give their pets Merrick Beef Filet Squares for dogs because it MAY possibly have salmonella contamination. This dog treat is distributed by Merrick Pet Care and has a package date of “Best By 111911″.
If you happen across one of these packages please do not open it, dispose off the product in a trash can with a lid. Also when taking your trash to the curb make sure the bag is secure in your trash can so a stray dog cannot get to the treats.

Well for those of you who don’t know it is National Dress Up Your Pet Day. The good news is you don’t have to wear your Halloween costume so get creative!
Some folks thinks this is a great idea (probably the ones dressing up their pet) and other folks think it’s humiliating to us animals. I have to say today’s news is on a much happier note then my last two posts.
Now I’m not sure how I would feel about dressing up, I haven’t tried it. Though I declare I’d make a fine Scarlett O’Hara if I say so myself. I look at it this way some of us are so fortunate that we have humans that love us so much and lavish items on us. It might look silly on the outside but I think their heart is in the right place. Then sadly some pets are just fashion accessories.
In the next day or two I’m going to post links to my favorites pictures from the 2010 National Dress Up Your Pet Day. If you want to leave a message and link to your picture please I’d love to see it (you).

Gee whiz just when I thought I couldn’t hear something stranger than tattooing King Tut on a kitty chest, I read this story. Are you sitting down? This happened before Christmas (I’ve been a bit out of the loop the boy came home from the Marine Corp for the Holidays) anyway, some woman placed an eBay Auction for gothic kittens.
Now I wondered what the heck that meant well, it was just horrible. I was staring at a picture that I wished I could have said was photoshopped. No such luck this woman had pierced her kittens ears, back, and necks and decided to place them up for auction. Makes you wonder if there is a whole pireced cat subculture underground somewhere
Kudos for the eBay users for turning in the woman who included her phone number in the ad.
